Inside Line Promotions – OXFORD, Maine (May 23, 2018) – Evan Hallstrom and the Hallstrom Motorsports team made the trip to one of the most prestigious paved ovals in the nation last weekend during an American-Canadian Tour event at Oxford Plains Speedway.
“It was a total last-minute decision,” Hallstrom said. “We just wanted to go racing since we had an open weekend before the Memorial Day race at Thunder Road next weekend.”
Hallstrom logged a few practice sessions early in the day on Sunday before heat races and the feature event took place.
“It was my first time to Oxford so we knew we were going to have to learn and adjust as the day went on,” he said. “This place is a whole different animal and the only way to find speed here is to search for it, but I think I adapted pretty quickly.”
Hallstrom started from the outside of the second row in a heat race and he advanced one position to finish third. His heat race result lined him up on the outside of the seventh row for the main event.
“We were pretty tight straight out of the box, but made some adjustments and got better throughout practice and for the heat race,” Hallstrom said. “The heat race wasn’t too bad. We maintained to finish third and make it into the feature.”
A loose race car caused Hallstrom to lose positions on the track as he dropped to 20th. However, after 150 laps and two cautions, Hallstrom rallied to finish 13th during his second American-Canadian Tour race.
The team’s next race is this Sunday at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., during the 56th annual Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic.
“We’re prepared to head back to Thunder Road this weekend,” Hallstrom said. “I’m going into the weekend looking at it as the first points race and to take it one step at a time. We had a good car last time and I know it’s good enough to race with the championship contenders so hopefully that plays out this weekend.”
